This is one of a series of symbolic Still-Life paintings made to represent major moments in Christian History. Each fruit on the black tablecloth represents a different fruit tree growing in the Garden of Eden. The apple in the middle represents the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The yellow and black string appearing and disappearing behind the fruits and contours of the garden is the Serpent who will imminently tempt Humanity to Fall.
